La Trinité

La Trinité - France

La Trinité
La Trinité is the project of the Concert de l'Hostel Dieu and Superspectives, united in the Lyon Trinité Musique association. Together, they opened a new stage for baroque and irregular music in one of Lyon's most beautiful town heritage monument: the La Trinité Chapel.

Each year, La Trinité will present a season of concerts, punctuated by festivals to the rhythm of the four seasons, and will develop around three major artistic axes:

Reconciliate repertoire and creation
Serving the repertoire means decompartmentalizing it: in time, by articulating early and contemporary music, repertoires and creations; in space, by being attentive to the nomadism of forms that link Western music to extra-European traditions, whether popular or art-music.
A dialogue between disciplines and arts
Extending the dialogue established in the Baroque era between disciplines, particularly art and science, and the ideal of a symphony of the arts by encouraging contemporary forms of artistic hybridization.

Exploring the links between music and nature
Questionning the power of art and music at a time of environment urgency by adressing our representations of nature, which crystallized precisely in the Baroque era.

In addition to the formats dedicated to training and emerging composers, reunited under the name of Tremplin, each year La Trinité will present the work of a “resident composer”: this season with the project Bach to Minimalism.

Vivaldi, Divina Stella - Light and Shadow in Vivaldi's Sacred Works

France

If our contemporary era is prodigious in crises and threats, the decade in which Vivaldi composed the works on our program has nothing to envy the present day. Around the 1720s, the dark events did not yet allow Vivaldi's century to be described as an "Age of Enlightenment." The upheavals of the War of the Spanish Succession—a veritable bloodbath across Europe—the still numerous epidemics of plague and smallpox, and the violence orchestrated by various tyrannies, made it a time when anxiety lurked surreptitiously.

Vivaldi's motets, composed mostly for the daughters of the Pietà—angels of light on earth—are the musical embodiment of these hopes. Storms and gusts of sound, present in abundance in these lyrical miniatures, metaphors for the turbulence that overwhelms Europe, precede the appearance of a comforting light. For, in the convulsions of restless nature, the  Divina Stella already shines , the divine star that illuminates humanity. This chiaroscuro that inhabits the works in our selection, vibrant and theatrical, teaches us patience and confidence in the coming of better days, where music will guide restless souls.
