Venise avant Monteverdi

From 20 May to 20 May France / Lyon

Venise avant Monteverdi (Venice before Monteverdi) illustrates the musical life of San Marco Basilica in the 16th and 17th centuries. From Adrian Willaert to Claudio Monteverdi, many eminent musicians succeeded one another as organist or choirmaster; all worked here to bring music to life, in a way that was both intimate and grandiose. Within the basilica, violins occupy a special place. In consort, they accompany devotion, punctuate services and sublimate contemplation.
