... The 5th edition of the festival "Les Marteaux de Gellone" is a journey...
through five centuries and different medieval societies, between East and West, revealing the contours of an intercultural commonality as well as otherness to discover, where Western modal music resonates with living traditions from elsewhere, between a historical Middle Ages and its contemporary echoes.
The music of the Middle Ages invites us, beyond its historical dimension, to re-interrogate the processes linked to the oral tradition, in which the act and the word inscribe, in the same movement, a memory of the event. It is up to us today, in the light of these processes still at work in certain contemporary oral traditions, to regenerate a modal gesture, beyond the written traces of which the manuscripts are the witnesses.
