The Adventures of Isfahan – a 17th Century Journey to Persia
28 - 29 April
In 1638, Duke Friedrich III. of Holstein-Gottorf sent out a delegation of 120 merchants, politicians and scientists to Persia, among them lute and viol player Christian Herwich. The challenging tour took six years and the travellers had to endure many dangerous situations. The expedition was documented in the diary of Adam Olearius, poet of the court. Hamburger Ratsmusik’s performance presents this exciting historical document, accompanied by Herwich’s and traditional Persian music.
