CMBV opens additional recruitment for its advanced vocal training programme, Les Chantres
The Centre de musique baroque de Versailles (CMBV) is offering young singers aged 18 to 30 a further opportunity to join Les Chantres, its two-year advanced professional training programme specialising in French music of the 17th and 18th centuries. As part of its 2026–2027 intake, the CMBV is opening additional recruitment for four voice types: mezzo-soprano, countertenor, tenor and baritone. Applications, including a vocal recording and a letter of motivation, are being reviewed on a rolling basis until 30 October 2026.

Based in Versailles, Les Chantres combines high-level vocal tuition with practical professional experience, preparing emerging singers for careers in early music. The programme brings together individual and choral singing, performance practice, ornamentation, French and other European languages' declamation, vocal chamber music, continuo and choral conducting. Students also work with musicologists from the CMBV's research department, developing their understanding of historical sources and performance traditions.

Professional experience is central to the curriculum. Students perform as choristers and soloists in productions and concerts, working with renowned specialists and guest conductors. The programme also benefits from educational partnerships with several French conservatoires and higher music education institutions, creating opportunities for further study and collaborative projects.
With nearly 30 years of experience, the CMBV has trained close to 200 young adult singers. Its alumni have gone on to work with leading ensembles and institutions, including Les Arts Florissants, Le Concert Spirituel, Pygmalion, Correspondances and the choir of the Opéra Royal, as well as pursuing solo careers, teaching, conducting and founding their own vocal ensembles.

The full-time programme welcomes French and international candidates aged 18 to 30. Students benefit from student status, and scholarships may be available according to social circumstances and artistic merit.

Applications are open until 30 October 2026, with candidates invited to submit their applications as soon as possible, as they are reviewed as they arrive.
