Musica Mirabilis – Festival musicale internazionale «Giovanni Legrenzi» - Italy
Musica Mirabilis is an international music festival, conceived and directed by Ivana Valotti and Giovanni Acciai and promoted by the Municipality of Clusone in partnership with PromoSerio and the Nova Ars Cantandi vocal and instrumental ensemble. Inaugurated in October 2022 by the Municipality of Clusone (a suggestive town, capital of Val Seriana, near Bergamo), Musica Mirabilis is the only Italian music event entirely devoted to the great composer.
It is no coincidence that 2026 marks the 400th anniversary of Legrenzi’s birth. For four years now, each autumn, Clusone has become the centre of a marvellous journey to rediscover one of its most admired and renowned “sons”, the composer Giovanni Legrenzi (1626–1690). His figure and repertoire—spanning instrumental, sacred and secular music—are celebrated in beautiful venues, including historic churches throughout the town.
Yet Musica Mirabilis is more than an event: it is conceived as an interdisciplinary and long-term cultural project that extends far beyond 2026. Its distinctive architecture brings together musical research and the rediscovery of Legrenzi’s works rarely performed today; artistic excellence through the participation of renowned vocal and instrumental ensembles; training opportunities for young musicians; and the promotion of conferences, international competitions and workshops, with a focus on regional cultural development.

The festival’s aim is not only to place Legrenzi back in his historical context, offering performances that respect philology and historically informed practice, but also to illuminate the connections with the musicians who came before him and those who followed. The belief behind the project is that Legrenzi’s time resonates with the present: his superb music reveals the portrait of an immense artist who, after 400 years, continues to amaze, surprise and move listeners. Future plans seek to build a platform of initiatives positioning Clusone as a key reference point on the European musical and cultural map, fostering a deeper understanding of what musical heritage can offer today.
