Haydneum - Hungary
Founded by the Hungarian government in 2021, Haydneum is dedicated to revitalising the performance of baroque and early music in Hungary. Its mission includes research, score publication, training, concerts and performances, focusing on the rediscovery of the Hungarian repertoire from the Baroque to the early Romantic periods (1630-1830).
Haydneum's activities are based on research, the discovery of forgotten works and their dissemination through concerts, recordings and festivals. A major initiative is the digitisation of Hungarian music archives, such as the collection of the National Széchényi Library. The resident ensembles, the Purcell Choir and the Orfeo Orchestra, directed by György Vashegyi, play an essential role in presenting these rediscovered works.
The centre organises three annual festivals: the Haydneum Festival of Sacred Music, the Eszterháza Festival and the Autumn Festival, as well as concert series and CD recordings throughout the year. Venues and events often focus on specific themes, offering audiences a deeper connection with Hungary's musical heritage.
