Festival international d'opéra baroque de Beaune - France
The Beaune Festival, founded in 1983 by Anne Blanchard and Kader Hassissi, is a leading European festival devoted to baroque opera and vocal music. Held every July in Beaune, Burgundy, the festival presents performances in historic venues such as the Hospices civils and the Basilique Notre-Dame.
In its four decades of existence, the festival has presented over 100 baroque operas, as well as numerous oratorios, recitals and symphony concerts. It has revived important works by composers such as Haendel, Jommelli, Porpora and Rameau, contributing to the renaissance of Baroque music in Europe.
A key aspect of the festival's mission is to encourage young talent. It has provided a platform for emerging conductors such as Christophe Rousset, Emmanuelle Haïm and Raphaël Pichon, as well as singers such as Sara Mingardo, Andreas Scholl, Gaëlle Arquez and Paul-Antoine Bénos Djian, many of whom have since gone on to international renown.
The festival's commitment to excellence and innovation has earned it recognition as a major event on the Baroque opera scene, with some describing it as the ‘Salzburg of the Baroque’.
