Early Music Sources aims to simplify the access to the vast amount of online early music sources.
The sources database as well as the iconography database enable quick search and gateway to sources according to various categories.
In addition to the databases, Early Music Sources also features a youtube series dealing with various topics relating to early music.
Benjamin Bagby
"I want to make voices of the past come to life again. To be recognized for this work is a great honor."
Benjamin Bagby (born February 20, 1951) is a singer, composer, harpist, and performer of medieval music.
In 1977, he founded the ensemble Sequentia with the late Barbara Thornton. He says about the ensemble and its artistic project: "It is an idea how medieval music can be performed. It is also an idea based on the human voice, the text and the emotions the singers convey through their voices and through the words that they sing." He adds that: "We live in a world of transmitted, visible words. (...) To go back to a world where text and emotions was uniquely embedded in sounds is extremely important for us."
In addition to his activities as singer, harper and director of Sequentia, Benjamin Bagby writes about performance practice and teaches widely in Europe and North America. He currently teaches in the faculty of Sorbonne University in Paris, in the master’s program for medieval music performance practice.
