REMA signs the Bratislava declaration on artistic freedom

On 23 June 2025, REMA signed the Bratislava Declaration, joining a growing number of cultural organisations calling for unified European action to protect artistic freedom and resist government interference in culture.
The declaration reflects an urgent and shared concern: the growing threats to cultural freedoms in EU Member States, including censorship, political pressure and the erosion of independent cultural institutions. These challenges were also highlighted in NEMO's recent barometer on political pressure on museums.

- Recognition of the crisis threatening artistic freedom in Europe;
- Protection of the right to freely create, express and share artistic works;
- Transparent and independent public funding processes;
- Solidarity with those facing state censorship and political intimidation;
- A safe and fair working environment in the cultural and creative sectors;
- The creation of a European Artistic Freedom Act to support artistic freedom as a fundamental component of the rule of law.
