STIMU-SYMPOSIUM : THE HISTORICAL VIOLIN
26 - 28 August 2019
Exactly thirty years after the Stichting voor Muziekhistorische Uitvoeringspraktijk (STIMU) organized their first, pioneering international Baroque violin conference, the 2019 STIMU-symposium again focuses on the historical violin. This multi-facetted event for performers, students, musicologists and instrument makers includes concerts, masterclasses by leading experts in historical string playing, round-table discussions and lectures. We will examine the early days of the revival, look at the present state of affairs and discuss our hopes for the future. The curator of the symposium is Dr Mimi Mitchell, who recently received her doctorate based on this topic from the University of Amsterdam.
