Laus Polyphoniae: why polyphony is relevant, in the past and present

Besides highlighting the expertise of composers and ensembles in this year's edition of Laus Polyphoniae, the festival of AMUZ (Flanders Festival Antwerp) also aims to emphasise the connection between polyphony and our emotions. The production Behold a Woman, a creation by photographer Lieve Blancquaert and Tiburtina Ensemble, combines universal, contemporary images with early music and the voices of different women. As such, the production spans the gap between life many centuries ago and life today. The combination of portraits and polyphony teaches us that the sound of many voices is an enrichment, and also that our emotions of love, grief and wonder are universal. Once again, Laus Polyphoniae demonstrates the relevance of early music.
