Il Caravaggio - France

Il Caravaggio
Under the direction of Camille Delaforge, Il Caravaggio is an orchestra that plays on period instruments and is dedicated to the lyrical repertoires of the Baroque and Classical periods. It collaborates with the most brilliant singers of the new generation and is noted for its sense of theatricality, virtuosity and intense expressiveness. At its helm, Camille Delaforge has established herself as one of the most promising conductors of her generation.

The ensemble attaches particular importance to rediscovering unpublished musical heritage. Each year, it highlights the work of forgotten female composers such as Isabella Leonarda, Élisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre and Mademoiselle Duval, whose opera Les Génies it recorded at the Opéra de Versailles.

Il Caravaggio is in residence at the Festival de Saint-Denis, the Festival Baroque de Pontoise, the Fondation Singer-Polignac and in the Île-de-France region.

The ensemble performs regularly on national stages (Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Rennes Opera, Royal Opera of Versailles, Angers Nantes Opera, La Seine Musicale) and internationally, notably in Amsterdam (Dutch National Opera), Geneva, Bremen, Bilbao, and elsewhere. Since 2025, the ensemble has been recording for the Alpha Classics label.
In 2024-2025, the ensemble is joining forces with directors Clédat and Petitpierre to give twenty stage performances of Campra's Le Carnaval de Venise, which can be heard at the Rennes Opera House, the Compiègne Opera House and the Atelier Lyrique de Tourcoing, among others. In 2025-2026, Il Caravaggio will add one of the masterpieces of the Baroque era to its repertoire: J. S. Bach's St John Passion. With an exceptional cast (Marie-Nicole Lemieux, Cyrille Dubois, Marie Lys, Guilhem Worms, Choeur Accentus), this production will be presented in prestigious venues such as the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Grand Théâtre de Provence, and the Atelier Lyrique de Tourcoing.

Particularly committed to the professional integration of young artists, Il Caravaggio created its Academy, Studio Il Caravaggio, in 2024, designed to support eight young singers at the beginning of their careers.
