University of Music and Theatre "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Leipzig - Germany
The University of Music and Theatre Leipzig – founded in 1843 by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy – is the oldest university-level school of music in Germany. The Department of Early Music, established in 1992, comprises 17 principal study programmes and more than 50 students from around the world. Located in the heart of Leipzig, we are just 100 metres from St. Thomas Church.
They offer a comprehensive early music education, strongly encourage chamber music, and organise regular large-scale projects, including an annual baroque opera production that involves as many students as possible. The department also collaborates closely with the Bach Archive Leipzig and the University of Leipzig’s Museum of Musical Instruments.
