Barock Vokal Akademie an der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz
In cooperation with Hochschule für Musik Mainz and Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz, Barock Vokal Akademie offers a unique programme of specialisation in the field of Early Music, aimed at advanced young singers.

They aim to support young professional singers in developing their skills and connecting them with the Early Music network. Musical curiosity, enthusiasm, and openness to repertoire off the beaten track are highly valued.
From around 1600 and well into the 18th century, vocal music was based on the so-called basso continuo. The singers’ focus on chamber music and their desire for textual expression later gave way to vanity and the pursuit of elaborate vocal embellishment and agility in the early 18th century. Yet the drama and virtuosity of late baroque and classical music could not have developed without a profound foundation in vocal chamber music and ensemble singing.

This is their motivation to dedicate the work at BVA to arias from the 18th century and the early baroque period, to the core repertoire as well as to lesser-known works in German, Italian and French. They wish to offer insight into specific aspects and general principles of baroque performance practice, and how to apply this knowledge in practice. And perhaps they may also spark in their participants the curiosity to dive into the wonderful world of unpublished repertoire.
