B.O.X (Baroque Orchestration X) - Belgium

B.O.X (baroque orchestration x) emerged from the intention, as classically trained musicians, to move beyond the performance of existing repertoire. As collective creators, and drawing inspiration from the rich sounds of the past, B.O.X seeks musical collaboration across genres and boundaries.

The ensemble was founded in 2010 by lutenist Pieter Theuns. Since then, it has developed many unique “baroque orchestrations,” each time in collaboration with a different “X”: Shara Nova, Hanna Benn, DM Stith, Richard Reed Parry (Arcade Fire), Efterklang, Valgeir Sigurdsson, Mugison, Bram Stadhouders, Spinvis, Stef Kamil Carlens, Dez Mona, and many others. Their work has been presented at venues such as Festival d’Ambronay, the Brooklyn Academy of Music (Next Wave Festival), the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, and more.

Since 2022, B.O.X has been contributing to the development of CASA SAGA in its home city of Antwerp. This unique “home for talent” was founded on the belief that the feeling of being at home while working together has a strong impact on the artistic outcome. From within this context, B.O.X is currently evolving from an ensemble into a platform for the development of historically inspired talent.
