Ensemble Dialogos - France

Ensemble Dialogos
Led by Katarina Livljanić, singer, musicologist and professor at the Schola Cantorum in Basel, Dialogos questions our relationship with the past. Since 1997, this flexible ensemble has brought together loyal singers and instrumentalists from different backgrounds and countries. Together, they bring to life the oral and musical traditions of Europe, from the Middle Ages to the present day, with a particular focus on the southern Slavic world. Katarina Livljanić's research, which forms the basis of Dialogos' programmes, allows us to (re)discover a unique repertoire. In a musical language based on medieval sources, combining plainchant, traditional melodies and polyphony, the past is used as a living, powerful and vital material. The great musicality and contemporary theatricality reveal the timeless beauty of these stories that seem to have travelled through time.
Dialogos is a guest at the world's greatest festivals and concert halls: Boston, Utrecht, Vancouver, Dubrovnik, Lincoln Centre, Metropolitan Museum in New York, Cité de la Musique in Paris, Folle Journée in Nantes... The creativity of their musical choices, the quality of their performances and the thought that goes into each new project have been praised by French and international critics alike. Dialogos' recordings have won numerous awards, including: Diapason d'Or, Choc du Monde de la Musique, 10 de Répertoire, 5 de Goldberg. The CD La Vision de Tondal won the Diapason d'Or in 2004 and the ‘Coup de cœur’ from the Académie Charles-Cros.

Dialogos receives support from the DRAC Île-de-France - Ministry of Culture. Mécénat Musical Société Générale is the main sponsor of the Dialogos ensemble. The ensemble was in residence at the Centre culturel de Rencontre d'Ambronay (2006-2009) and the Fondation Royaumont (2011-2014).
