– A journey through the soundscape of the late 18th century

Jan De Winne (flutes)
Varvara Manukyan (fortepiano)
The duo takes us on a journey through a period of stylistic change, when the soundscape of the flute and piano underwent profound developments. Mozart's Parisian Sonata KV 379 is the starting point for a journey through the second half of the 18th century. Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach is considered a true representative of the sensitive style. The fine, nuanced sound of the flute, which blends and merges with that of the fortepiano, proved to be the ideal medium for this expressive and deeply personal musical language. The visual equivalent of the music can be found in the pastel colours and elegant ornamentation of the Rococo style, which can be admired at Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam.
Beethoven's Serenade Op. 41 stands at the boundary between the Viennese galant tradition and the assertive style of the mature Beethoven.
