XXIX Festival de Música Antigua de Úbeda y Baeza
From 22 November to 08 December Spain / Úbeda and Baeza (Jaén, Spain)
Taking advantage of the commemoration of the 350th anniversary of the canonisation of San Juan de la Cruz (1675–2025), the FeMAUB 2025 has chosen the theme “Love” in homage to the mystical poet who, with unparalleled subtlety, captured the intersection between earthly passion and spiritual transcendence. In this edition, the festival is structured around four essential themes—pleasure, pain, body, and soul—which invite us to explore the multiple dimensions of love in early music. From devotional music inspired by Carmelite mysticism to Baroque oratorios, Seicento madrigals, Golden Age villancicos, and songs of faith from the New World, the FeMAUB 2025 offers a journey through love understood as a total experience: physical and spiritual, joyful and painful. This year's programme—which links Iberian, New Spain, and Mediterranean repertoires—reveals music as a language capable of building bridges between desire and devotion, between human suffering and the search for the eternal, in a tribute to the living word and the transformative power of sound.
