Traeurmusik
17 March Belgium / Ghent
This programme brings together the two greatest German composers of the late Baroque period and features two of their early works, composed in the very first years of the 18th century. Blending stylistic elements still inherited from the earlier style of the great masters (Buxtehude, Weckmann, Bruhns), these cantatas also showcase the full range of vocal and instrumental expression that would unfold in the major sacred works of both composers.
Bringing together J.S. Bach and G.P. Telemann is part of the rich research work carried out by Le Banquet Céleste since its inception, exploring the repertoire of sacred cantatas with one voice per part, driven by an aesthetic desire to blend singers and instrumentalists within a very ‘chamber music’ approach to music, and more specifically to this German repertoire of more intimate cantatas. This project offers the opportunity to bring together an original and varied ensemble combining recorders and violas with violins, oboes and bassoon.
An album is due for release in early 2027 on the ALpha Classics - Outhere label
