In the late Middle Ages, music changed dramatically: simple, monophonic songs gave way to rich polyphony—and sometimes didn’t! Marc Mauillon, Mathias Lunghi, and Camille Macinenti move about effortlessly in this exciting transitional zone. Hymns from the Cantigas de Santa Maria stand alongside playful motets full of rhythmic intrigue, Italian ballate by the legendary organist Francesco Landini, and fresh spring songs by troubadour and crusader Raimbaut de Vaqueiras. This creates a vibrant soundscape in which the Middle Ages are audibly shifting.
