Rituals have always helped human beings to overcome uncertainty and grief. Through this musical meditation, the Lumière noire ensemble aims to offer its audience a space conducive to the expression of their own feelings. French Baroque music meets the spiritual inspirations of the theologian Simone Wosniok, who guides listeners through a kind of ‘Leçons de Ténèbres’ ceremony: with each piece, the flickering flame of a candle is extinguished. The music, composed some 300 years ago for monastic darkness, now responds to a need for light, calm and humanity.
