Spinacino Consort & Siglo de Oro: Hey for Christmas!
United Kingdom / London, Little Missenden (Bucks.), Esher (Surrey)
Picture the scene: you’ve just arrived at your relatives for Christmas in the 1620s, and they like a good party. Vocal ensemble Siglo de Oro combine with instrumentalists from the Spinacino Consort in a programme that brings to life the traditional 12 days of Christmas through a lively combination of 17th-century ballads, broadsides, dances and carols. Traditional melodies from Britain and Ireland feature alongside music by leading composers of the day such as William Byrd. The result is a feast of joyful sounds to brighten the darkest nights of the year.
