To celebrate the release of their debut album on PENTATONE, mezzo-soprano Margarita Slepakova and her international early music ensemble Le Sommeil present SEMELE in a series of concerts across Poland and Switzerland.

What connects French tragédie lyrique, English Baroque opera and Handel's dramatic musical theatre?

The myth of Semele, a mortal woman who demands to see the god she loves in his true form, crossing the boundary between human and divine in her pursuit of truth.

Bringing together three Baroque interpretations of the myth by John Eccles, Marin Marais and George Frideric Handel, alongside original compositions and arrangements by members of the ensemble, SEMELE creates a continuous musical narrative exploring desire, revelation, courage and transformation.

Historically informed performance meets a contemporary artistic language, reflecting Le Sommeil's fascination with the relationship between myth, dream and archetype.
