From the Middle Ages a significant number of compositions with an eschatological theme are preserved. The most striking, because of their connection with the classical past, are the planctus, which mourn the disappearance of a relevant character of civil or ecclesiastical society, unless it is the planctus of Mary Magdalene, linked to liturgical dramas and prophetic songs.
Èlia Casanova, soprano
