In 1815, lawyer, composer, writer (and Beethoven critic) E. T. A. Hoffmann described the key of E flat major as follows: «Follow him! – Follow him! – Green is his coat, like the dark forest – Sweet as the sound of the horn, his longing words! – Can you hear it rustling behind the bushes? Can you hear it sounding? The sound of horns, full of joy and melancholy – it is he – up! Towards him!»
Our Salon 2026 is dedicated to two E-flat major centaurs of music history: Mendelssohn's Octet and Beethoven's 3rd Symphony.
The summit meeting travels through three cantons – just as Mendelssohn travelled through Switzerland.
