The Early Music Round Table examines socio-economic barriers in early music and asks what they mean for our daily practice as musicians and organisers. Why does our music often reach only a limited audience? Why are training pathways, networks and performance opportunities difficult to access for many – even for those already working in early music? For exclusion affects not only the audience, but also ourselves: working conditions, the recruitment of new talent, audience development and the future viability of our scene depend directly on who has access to it. Voices from the cultural sector, early music, academia and activism will explore these questions in individual presentations and discuss them in a concluding round-table discussion with all participants.
