Roots

From 10 November to 22 November Belgium / Brussels

After exploring the musical landscapes of England and France, the Collegium Musicum of the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles now ventures deep into the Saxon forests and wildlands of the 17th century with its new programme, “Roots.”
This journey follows in the footsteps of the composers who shaped the young Johann Sebastian Bach. Like musical pilgrims, we retrace Bach’s own path to meet his artistic “ancestors” — Tunder, Buxtehude, Bruhns, and, of course, Bach himself — whose works helped forge his distinctive voice.
In another chapter of the programme, we turn to the influence of Antonio Vivaldi, whose violin concertos inspired Bach when he composed his own. On this occasion, one of Bach’s violin concertos will be performed by a promising young soloist, offering a glimpse into this rich musical dialogue.
From 10 to 16 November, the Collegium Musicum, in collaboration with the Organ Class of the Brussels Conservatory, will travel to Weimar, performing in Waltershausen, Naumburg, and at the Jakobskirche in Weimar on 15 November at 4:00 PM, as part of the programme “Europäische Barockmusik” (free admission).
Upon returning to Belgium, the ensemble will conclude its journey with a concert in Spa on 22 November at 8:00 PM, at the Centre Culturel Spa-Jalhay-Stoumont. Tickets and reservations are available online via the Musique à Spa platform
