Psalms of David

From 10 September to 10 September Germany / Köln / Germany

To round off Shalom-Musik. Koeln, Dame Emma Kirkby – one of the most significant voices in early music – takes to the stage. Her concert brings together two musical worlds: the Hebrew psalms of the Jewish composer Salomone Rossi and the psalm settings by Heinrich Schütz, composed around the same time. The same texts, two traditions – impressively juxtaposed. Salomone Rossi was an Italian composer and violinist in the early 17th century who combined Jewish tradition with contemporary musical developments. At the same time, Heinrich Schütz composed entirely in the spirit of German Protestantism – a unique musical experience bridging Jewish and Christian music.
