POST TENEBRAS - SPERO LUCEM (ARTISTIC RESIDENCE)
From 22 April to 26 April France / Paris
At the dawn of the 17th century, between the Adriatic and the Black Sea, two geniuses shook their era and ushered in a new age of music.
The sumptuous spatialized double-choir works of Giovanni Gabrieli are matched by the magnificence of the virtuosic Kalophonic chant of Konstantinos of Aghialos and his contemporary Joasaph of Mount Athos, both bearing the exceptional title of “New Koukouzelis.” These composers revolutionized their time, developing a dazzling musical language that would leave a lasting mark. While Gabrieli signaled the end of the Western Renaissance and the beginning of the Baroque era, Aghialos gave birth to a Byzantine Renaissance, following the century of silence that trailed the trauma of the Fall of Constantinople. POST TENEBRAS is a fireworks display bursting with life, offering audiences an experience of grandeur, “made in” 1600.
