'Pirame, for Tisbé, from his earliest childhood, experienced the power of the god who makes people love...'

Unlike German cantatas of the same period, French cantatas of the early 18th century were secular works, considered true 'serials'. Composed for one or more voices accompanied by a basso continuo and, in most cases, upper instruments forming 'the symphony', they can be regarded as chamber operas. This programme is based on cantatas for solo voice by a little-known composer who was nevertheless one of the leading figures of the Age of Enlightenment, Louis-Nicolas Clérambault (1676-1749), and will be the subject of 'a nocte temporis'' second recording for the Alpha label, due for release in September 2017.
