Phaedrus presents: MISTICANZA - Talking Nonsense in Renaissance Italy
14 November Switzerland / St-Légier-La Chiésaz
Premiere of our brand new concert programme:
‘Misticanza’
Meaningless words in Renaissance Italy
Friday 14 November, 7.30pm
In Misticanza, Phaedrus explores traces of popular melodies, folk songs and poetry subtly concealed in the frottole of 15th- and 16th-century Italy. Inspired by the term misticanza—a 17th-century invention attributed to Michael Praetorius—the pieces are reinvented through the prism of the lanzi, German-speaking musicians and the first documented flute players to practise in Italy during the Renaissance. Misticanza is a journey full of enigmas, humour and unexpected beauty, at the heart of a unique musical puzzle.
