The Modena Cathedral, a UNESCO monument, welcomes the first absolute Italian performance of the oratorio dedicated to San Geminiano, bishop and protector of the city. Composed in Vienna in 1705 by Catterina Benedetta Grazianini and sung before Their Most Serene Highnesses of Brunswick and Modena, the work evokes the famous miracle of the Saint who freed Flavia, daughter of Emperor Constantius, from the devil: a pivotal episode of the city's identity, sculpted by Wiligelmo right in the reliefs of the Porta dei Principi of the cathedral. Among the corridors of the Habsburg imperial court, Grazianini was one of the rare female figures capable of establishing herself in wide-ranging sacred writing. Under the direction of Paolo Faldi, the Baroque Orchestra of Bologna and a cast of soloists bring back to life a score that blends sacred devotion with the stylistic refinement of the imperial baroque, offering an extraordinary opportunity to rediscover a composer of rare sensitivity and celebrate the Modenese identity in music.
