Oh lovely peace – The Fall of Man on the opera stage | zamus: early music festival 2026

From 24 May to 24 May Germany / Köln

Anastasiia Kolabanova – Soprano
and zamus: amateur baroque orchestra

Rehearsal director: Peter Wuttke

What genre could be better suited to portraying the Fall of Man and the loss of Paradise in music than opera? In the programme by zamus: amateur baroque orchestra featuring soprano Anastasiia Kolabanova, Jupiter and Semele initially revel in their union, until the mortal woman, having gained forbidden knowledge of the divine and immortality, begins to crave it. In Leonardo Vinci’s opera ‘Gismondo’, a drama featuring civil war, potions of power and romantic entanglements, Primislao calls to arms. Jean-Baptiste Lully’s “Armide” is about freedom, but also the struggle between love and hate. In George Frideric Handel’s “Judas Maccabaeus”, the peace that has finally been achieved can be welcomed. A magnificent cantata-sinfonia by Johann Sebastian Bach ultimately leads to the Pentecost event of mutual understanding – and where better to experience this than through music?

Arias from musical dramas by George Frideric Handel, Leonardo Vinci and Jean-Baptiste Lully, orchestral works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Giuseppe Antonio Brescianello, Georg Philipp Telemann and Johann Friedrich Fasch.
