Musica Sacra Ukraina | Ukrainian Christmas
From 18 December to 18 December Germany / Cologne
The Ensemble Partes presents Ukrainian masterpieces of Baroque and early Classical periods from the 17th and 18th centuries, when Kyiv and Lviv were crossroads of Western and Eastern musical traditions. This is particularly evident in the anonymously composed Partesny Concerti, a unique choral tradition situated between Orthodox and Roman Catholic styles, found in this form only in Ukraine. The program unites choral music from this rich tradition of Partesny Concerti with works by Mykola Dyletsky, Andrii Raczynsky, and Maksym Berezovsky, who in some cases still incorporated Partesny elements but simultaneously composed in the new Classical style. From powerful twelve-part chants to refined miniatures, a magical winter wonderland unfolds.
