Mundi salus - The Religious Music of Matteo da Perugia

From 07 September to 07 September Netherlands / Utrecht, Pieterskerk, Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht

Mundi Salus, the health of the world, or the salvation of the world. Strong words, not so easy to pronounce today. Our title comes from a beautiful motet by Matteo da Perugia: “Ave Sancta Mundi Salus”. As musicians and 15th century music enthusiasts, we believe in Matteo’s sacred music healing power.
Matteo’s acquaintance with the humanist Pietro Filargo and his circle, probably his "first" audience, allows to see his art in the context of Early humastic Italy. His music, so beautiful and original, is the last great Italian polyphony produced before what Pirrotta called Enigma Quattrocento. 15th century Italy is in fact after the 1420s dominated by Flemish polyphony and musicians and Matteo forgotten.
