Monteverdi's Vespers of 1610 with La Fonte Musica

Monteverdi’s Vespers are a pinnacle of Western Art. Many times its author is seen as an extraordinary innovative composer, if not the beginner of a new era. Monteverdi for sure has had a pivotal role in developing modern music, but he also had its feet well rooted in the past. And this is true especially for the Vespers. We see this marvelous work as the apotheosis of a long and vast polyphonic tradition dating back two centuries. All the subtle rhythmic games, the structure itself of the polyphonic writing come from the two golden centuries of European Polyphony.  A true Apotheosis of the sacred polyphony tradition.
