Monteverdi, L'Orfeo
From 28 March to 28 March Belgium / Antwerp
Michele Pasotti's Italian ensemble La Fonte Musica has an 'energy and a quality reminiscent of the pioneers of the historical performance practice of medieval music', according to the French Diapason. In particular, the way in which the ensemble researches texts and their meaning creates space for fresh perspectives. At THE SINGEL they focus on L'Orfeo, Claudio Monteverdi's first opera, about the poet and musician Orpheus. With his music he managed to soften up the gods to save his dead Eurydice from the underworld. In medieval poetry, la fonte musica (the fountain of music, or the source of music) was considered to be a place of regeneration and life and a symbol of pleasure. And according to La Fonte Musica, that is precisely how Monteverdi's Orfeo should sound.
