Misticisme vs Erotisme | AVOCAL CDM | CAPELLA DE MINISTRERS · CARLES MAGRANER

From 04 September to 04 September Spain / SANT MIQUEL DELS REIS MONASTERY | VALENCIA

In commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the birth of Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, this program celebrates not only the life and work of one of the greatest masters of Renaissance sacred music but also his vast influence on generations of later composers. Palestrina, whose music is synonymous with purity, balance, and contrapuntal refinement, marked a turning point in the history of Western music. Over the centuries, his legacy has endured not only as a model of technical perfection but also as a source of emotional and spiritual inspiration. In his masses, motets, and madrigals, Palestrina skillfully combined textual clarity with astonishing melodic beauty—qualities that profoundly influenced the development of choral and sacred music. This program explores the imprint left by Palestrina; his style continues to be an indispensable point of reference.

One of AVocal CdM’s goals is to address the lack of specialized studies on the most unique repertoires of the European musical heritage. The 2025 work program will focus on Il Cantar de los Cantares by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (1525–1594).
