2025 marks the 500th anniversary of the birth of one of the giants of sacred music: Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. His Missa Papæ Marcelli is considered his masterpiece, a work that, while responding to the demands of clarity imposed by his time, does not give up the complex beauty and balance of counterpoint. It represents the highest demonstration of how polyphony can be both intelligible and deeply emotional. The sound architecture of Palestrina will come to life thanks to the extraordinary acoustics of the Chiesa di San Domenico, recently restored to its full beauty after the 2012 earthquake. The ethereal harmonies and intertwined melodic lines will spread into a space that amplifies its resonance, creating a unique and enveloping listening experience.
