Masterclasses 2026

Germany / Lübeck

The application phase for this year's masterclasses of the European Hanseatic Ensemble from 14 to 17 September 2026 in Lübeck has started and we would herby like to invite you to apply!

Our team of international teachers Manfred Cordes (ensemble), Ulrike Hofbauer and Jan Van Elsacker (voice), Veronika Skuplik (baroque violin), Frithjof Smith (cornetto), Hille Perl (viola da gamba), Simen Van Mechelen (baroque trombone), Joachim Held (lute/theorbo), Marcin Szelest and Michael Fuerst (organ continuo) will again decide who will take part this autumn on the basis of the best audio/video samples submitted.

The focus of the course will be on solo and ensemble music from around 1600! For the audio/video samples and the works for the individual lessons you may choose European music from the Renaissance and/or Early Baroque (with one exception for applications for the organ continuo course), for the ensemble sessions the focus will be specifically on the music of the old Hanseatic cities. We will select the ensemble works to suit the course line-up and make them available to all selected participants before the masterclasses.

Those who excel in the masterclasses will form the European Hanseatic Ensemble and will go on tour through Germany and Northern Europe in summer/fall 2027.

As part of the EU-funded YTHM (Young Talents for Hanseatic Music) project, a special focus next year will be on concerts in Sweden, the Netherlands and northern Germany, this time in conjunction with large organ instruments of historical construction.

Within the context of YTHM there is the opportunity for organists who are admitted to the masterclasses in Lübeck to also take part in the courses offered by the Göteborg International Organ Academy: 2 – 7 August 2026 Arp Schnitger Academy, 9 – 12 August 2026 Schiörlin Academy at a reduced fee. You will find all the necessary information here

You will find all the information about the application and the course on our website. Application deadline is 15 April 2026
