Throughout his life Heinrich Schütz was inspired by the Song of Songs, the Bible’s most poetic and sensual book. Using the new musical language he had developed since his apprenticeship with Gabrieli, in Venice, he devoted all his talent to doing this masterly erotic poetry justice. Timbres and spatial effects go hand in hand with solo and polychoral work. Ever since then, Biblical love has resounded with Italian eleganza.
