The Nightingale and the Emperor of China
08 June/14h30 France / Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone
Today, at a time when biodiversity is under such threat and birds are gradually disappearing from our soundscape, the ensemble La Rêveuse has joined forces with Cécile Hurbault, a specialist in Asian shadow theatre, to adapt Hans Christian Andersen’s 1843 tale, The Nightingale and the Emperor of China.
This musical and ecological production offers a contemporary perspective on the relationship between humans and animals, juxtaposing descriptive 18th-century French pieces centred on birds with original contemporary works written by the composer Vincent Bouchot.
This show also provides an opportunity to hear the bird flutes and serinettes, long-lost instruments dear to bird catchers and bird lovers of the time… It charms audiences of all ages from 6 years old upwards!
