JUDICIUM EXTREMUM & altri Oratori di Giacomo Carissimi per S.M. Cristina Regina di Svezia

From 25 October to 25 October Italy / Modena

In seventeenth-century Rome, Giacomo Carissimi took the form of the sacred oratorio to unattainable levels of drama and figurative rendering. Choirmaster at the Collegium Germanicum, Carissimi found his most illustrious patron in Queen Christina of Sweden, who wanted him at the helm of her chamber music. The program presented by the Biscantores ensemble, directed by Luca Colombo, retraces this happy artistic encounter through four absolute masterpieces of the spiritual genre: the Historia di Abraham et Isaac, written in 1656 to celebrate the sovereign's arrival in Rome, the moving Historia di Ezechia, the famous Jonas with its famous description of the storm, and the imposing Judicium Extremum, a sonic painting of the Last Judgment entrusted to the expressive power of the triple choir.
