IMPERATRIX AGATHA

11 October/15h00 Italy / Agliate

Most medieval music was never written exactly as it was performed. Drawing on the italian Troparium of Catania, Imperatrix Agatha explores those practices that lay beyond written notation: the embellishment of monophonic chant and the improvised polyphonies that formed part of everyday medieval performance. Through the figure of Saint Agatha, the programme creates an intimate, mysterious and evocative sound world, offering audiences a glimpse of this invisible musical heritage.
