Grandezze & Meraviglie celebrates the Scarlattian Year with the important production of Il Martirio di Santa Teodosia, based on the manuscript edition preserved in the Biblioteca Estense in Modena. Considered one of the most significant representatives of Italian musical Baroque, Scarlatti was a genius of his time, whose production of melodramas and oratorios is today unanimously recognized for his profound dramatic strength. The story focuses on the unrequited love between Arsenio, son of the Roman governor Urbano and the young woman who rejects him in the name of his firm faith, facing martyrdom. The poignant final aria of Teodosia, Spirti beati, is particularly striking.
