Iconography, organology, archaeo-musicology
France / Montpellier
Archaeomusicology focuses on the musical facts of the past through the lens of archaeological remains on one hand, and on the other hand, emphasizes the musical gesture and its practical context. In order to approach musical practice in the most concrete way possible, it is necessary for this approach to engage with a number of fields of study, including organology (the science of musical instruments).
The objective of this course is to explore the major themes and challenges of archaeomusicology through one of its practical applications, the reconstruction of lost musical instruments, which can be called archaeolutherie.
The course is structured in 4 sessions (days): 3 theoretical and methodological sessions, 1 practical session.
