I Have Been Her Kind

From 05 August to 05 August Belgium / Brugge

Postscript & Elisabeth Hetherington
Handel, Purcell, Strozzi & Saariaho

The ensemble Postscript and soprano Elisabeth Hetherington explore the voice of the outcast woman across the centuries. Inspired by Anne Sexton’s famous poem Her Kind, they present music by Handel, Purcell, Strozzi, Saariaho, and Fadael, interwoven with electroacoustic interludes by Tatiana Rosa. Baroque portraits of Alcina, Armide, and Medea reflect modern perspectives on madness, psychological fracture, and femininity. Together, Hetherington and Postscript create a powerful and dramatic journey through centuries of female experience.

Featuring music by:

  • Georg Friedrich Handel (1685–1759)
  • Henry Purcell (1659–1695)
  • Barbara Strozzi (1619–1677)
  • Kaija Saariaho (1952–2023)
  • Karmit Fadael (b. 1996)
