HATHOR CONSORT | OPERE DI BARBARA STROZZI
Austria / Vienna
Hana Blažíková, Dorothee Mields & HATHOR CONSORT
Barbara Strozzi (1619 - 1677) was said to be “the most prolific composer - male or female - of printed secular vocal music” in Venice in the mid-17th century. She published eight volumes of her own music, and had more music in print than any other composer of the time. Her music, steeped in emotion and dramatic eloquence, balances between intimate outpourings
and virtuoso outbursts.
Fittingly, two star sopranos—Dorothee Mields and Hana Blažíková—join the Hathor Consort to breathe new life into her music. Together, they craft a five-part musical portrait that captures the depth and brilliance of Strozzi’s art.
