From Mannheim to Berlin
From 10 May to 10 May Germany / Greifenberg
– Galant Sonatas in Courts and Salons
Artem Belogurov (fortepiano)
Oktavie Dostaler-Lalonde (cello piccolo by J. M. Alban)
This programme traces the development of the galant sonata from Berlin and Mannheim to Mozart's mature Viennese style. Schaffrath's Sonata in C major embodies the elegant Berlin court culture with lyrical, dialogical interplay between cello and piano. Mozart's Sonata in C major, K. 309, composed during his Mannheim journey in 1777, radiates youthful brilliance and contains a delicate Andante – a musical portrait of Rosa Cannabich. After an improvised introduction, Bach's Sonata in A major (attributed to Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach) concludes the programme with clarity and charm. Played on a four-string violoncello piccolo and two 18th-century-style pianos, the concert unfolds a world of sound characterised by intimacy, elegance and invention.
